Ambition Institute publishes first gender pay gap report

Currently, 48,000 teachers and school leaders from over 10,000 schools are developing through Ambition’s programmes, reaching over 4.3 million pupils. As our work to tackle educational inequality has expanded, so has the number of people working at Ambition.

Organisations with 250 staff or more are required to publish annual data on their gender pay gap. We are pleased to be publishing this information for the first time, and sharing our positive outcome.

For 2023, we are reporting a median gender pay gap of 0.13%, and a mean gender pay gap of 0.62%.

This compares with a national median average pay gap of 14.9%, and a national mean average pay gap of 14.3%.

This positive outcome reflects the actions we have taken in recent years to champion fairness and transparency, such as our annual pay equality reviews, the introduction of salary banding, and ensuring every role at Ambition is advertised with a clear salary.

Responding to this news, Ambition Institue Chief Executive Hilary Spencer said: “We are deeply committed to taking action that will strengthen equality, diversity and inclusion in the education workforce, for the pupils they teach, and in our own organisation.

“There will always be more we want to do to achieve equity for our staff and for the education sector more widely – on gender, but also on other factors and characteristics including race and ethnicity, disability, neurodivergence, and socioeconomic background. We are not complacent, but are pleased with a positive overall picture for our first gender pay gap report.”
